As you get older, it can become increasingly difficult to perform everyday tasks. This can make it hard for a senior to take proper care of themselves and make sure their homes are safe living environments. Luckily, senior in-home care is a great option to allow seniors to safely continue living in their homes.

What Is Senior In-Home Care?

Senior in-home care is an option for seniors to have nurses or caregivers come into their homes and provide the care and services the seniors need. In-home care services are a great way to give seniors extra time in their homes instead of moving into a nursing home or assisted living.

Senior In-Home Care Service Options

There are many service options that can be provided in the home. Some service options are healthcare-related, some are not.

Some healthcare service options include:

  • Medication management

  • Wound care
  • Catheter changes

  • Physical therapy

  • Occupational therapy

  • Infusion therapy

Some non-healthcare service options include:

  • Cleaning

  • Meal preparation

  • Bathing assistance

  • Dressing assistance

  • Grocery shopping

  • Medical appointment assistance

Some seniors may need help with healthcare, others may just need help with tasks around the house, and some may need both.

How Does Senior In-Home Care Work?

To start in-home care, you can hire family members or private nurses on your own, or you can look into home care agencies in your area. Some home care services are covered by your insurance and if you receive services through an agency, they can bill your insurance.

Working with a home care agency can also take some weight off your shoulders because they will do the work. They will handle most of the contact with the insurance companies and the doctors to make sure the insurance will pay. However, billing your insurance will have limitations. Your insurance company will place limitations on the type and amount of services that your insurance will cover.

Home Care Services Without Insurance

If you do not have insurance, you can still receive home care services. This is called private pay. However, you will have to pay the total cost of the services out of pocket. The benefit of private pay is that you will have more control over the type and amount of services you receive. You don't need to wait for your doctor to tell the agency that the services you're requesting are medically necessary. If you utilize an agency, they will send a bill for your services directly to you.

If you have additional questions about senior in-home care services, contact a company like Specialty Home Care.

About Me
Keeping My Family Members Safe

After spending years working hard, I could tell that my grandparents were starting to wind down. They were really struggling with issues like mobility, and so I started thinking about different ways to keep them safe and sound. I realized that a nursing home or assisted living center would be the natural choice, since they needed to have almost constant care and supervision. After I was able to find a great nursing home, I took my grandparents on a tour of the space, and they were head over heels in love with it. This blog is all about encouraging your family members to live in an assisted living center.
